BIO

NY-based, alternative songstress/music producer, TRISTN, releases the video, “Sky Wide Open,” from her upcoming er album, January, due out September 8, 2017. his self-directed music video is her true expression of the silver-lining concept of her album January.  Expressing in her own words, “Sometimes I feel like the world is always closing in on me. Sky Wide Open was written as a reminder for all of us.  We have darker days, of course, but we also have days we make great memories.  When the sky opens wide, I hope we keep our eyes wide open.  I’ve traveled allover the world, and one day, I decided it was time for me to see the magic of the sky in Iceland.  I couldn’t fight it. I had to embrace what the world has to offer.  It was so beautiful that I had to go back and capture the essence of this song.  I’m glad I did.”

On January, TRISTN worked with a high-powered team of producers, including the late Tom Coyne (Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Adele), on “Now You Know,” Ted Jensen (Norah Jones, Muse, Green Day) on “Nothing to Say (Nothin’),” and Christian Wright (Abbey Road Studios UK) and  Steve Kupillas (Oak and Ash, Brand New) on the remainder of the songs . TRISTN also co-produced the album alongside these legends and tells the story of true events of her life on January. Throughout the writing/recording process, TRISTN came into her own as both a solo artist/songwriter and producer. Wonky Sensitive calls TRISTN’s sound a “anthemic and upbeat alternative pop/rock gem.”

Her first single “Nothing to Say (Nothin’)”,produced by Kupillas and TRISTN, and co-produced by Nick Carbone (drummer for Interscope / BadBoy artist French Montana) is a witty song and conversational piece about gossip, exposing those who talk about others but are too afraid to speak face to face. Sky Wide Open, her following single release, shows her optimistic personality.

Keep your eyes peeled for more music, videos and show announcements surrounding the release of the new album, January.

How much did he influence the album?

"Honestly, Steve didn’t only influence the album.  He also helped me develop a sound that is mine.  He’s also a great teacher, very patient and very knowledgable.  At first I thought, wow, this guy knows so much, he’s probably going to give up on me, haha.  But I learned as much as I could to catch up with him and I’m so happy he didn’t give up on me...."

NEW YORK- BASED OUTFIT DELIVERS A CRARCKING POP-ROCK ANTHEM

"Anywhere But Here" is the new single by NY-based, eclectic pop/rock songstress/music producer TRISTN, off her upcoming album, "January," due for release on September 8th. Enjoy!

WONKY SENSITIVE

New York-based songstress TRISTN, who first came to our attention back in early June with her previous single "Sky Wide Open", is back with yet another anthemic and upbeat alternative pop/rock gem called "Anywhere But Here", which also serves as the latest single to be lifted from her upcoming debut album, January, due for release on September 8th.

IMPOSE MAGAZINE

New York’s pop/rock musician TRISTN is prepping to release her new album titled January in the hot hot heat of the summertime. As she gets ready for that big feat, she’s actually ready to share the next single, an upbeat track entitled “Sky Wide Open”. A track that addresses the issue of selective sight – or choosing how you view the world instead of seeing it for what it is is -, “Sky Wide Open” drops some lyrical knowledge with TRISTN’s signature light as a feather vocals. You can’t help but bob your head and tap your feet – as cliche as all of that seems – as she implores you to “open your eyes” repeatedly so you can “see the sky wide open.” She doesn’t have to convince us.

"What has been the biggest highlight of the band’s career so far?

I'd have to say, my fans.  They have been such an inspiration.  So far I've gotten hundreds of emails about how they're inspired by my music and how I'm pursuing my career relentlessly.  When I get messages from my fans about how my work has gotten them through their struggles, that's when I feel I'm doing my job."

We had a listen:

This is pure,  slippery and abrasive architectural happiness.

With angular blocks of sound pushed against the sweet chirruping voice.

The melody lines remind us of “Hey! You! Get off of my cloud” [Stones, 1965] with the kind of disjointed yet highly effective production [Trevor Horn] that we might associate with those synth-rock Russian superstars T.A.T.U.

A triumphantly joyous fragment of heart chips.

"...The song is taken from her upcoming debut solo album "January", which is expected to be released on September 8. The track was written by TRISTN and produced by Steve Kupillas.
She released a debut song "Nothing to Say (Nothin’)" in November 2016. The music video was premiered on VEVO, directed by herself.
On June 10, she dropped live studio recording video for "So Suddenly", which is included on her debut album.
Her music is influenced from ColdPlay and Skylar Gray. But the new song reminds us of Taylor Swift."

INDIE MINDED INTERVIEW

BY KELLY MURPHY

"For those who may not be familiar, please tell us about your music: the type of music you play, where you are from, and how you got started?

I honestly can’t remember the exact moment I started, haha. I guess it was 3 years ago when I started writing and playing full-time. I’ve been writing songs since I was a kid but this time I started producing, too. My music falls into the Alt/Pop, Rock sound."

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

Yes, definitely. I love challenges, they push me to do better, be better, and try harder, especially in the digital age where we have access to everything and everyone. The challenge in the digital age is that we can publicize our art at the push of a button. There’s no filter. If we want to publish our music independently, we need to be more careful with the content that we choose to release since there’s no one to tell us that it’s not that great, haha."

... About the new song, TRISTN explained;
"'Anywhere But Here' is my favorite song in this album. It’s about escaping from a frustrating, sad reality – feeling trapped most of my childhood. When I was a kid, I was absolutely fearless. I miss that feeling, really believing that anything is possible. I wrote it when I was feeling trapped, and I wanted to remind myself of the brave little kid

UNAPOLOGETIC TRACK “NOTHING TO SAY (NOTHIN’)”

"Complete with catchy hooks it is hard not to want to dance along. The beat is simple yet infectious beat is complemented with sampled chicken sounds (not even kidding on this one, what a great addition). While it feels like a 2005 pop-track, it is everything but that. The rocker edge that TRISTN possesses shines through on the track, making it unique to her individualistic sound and look.
